Hukyu (meaning "everlasting") Bonsai Society was founded by Mr. Phillip Lin, the first president of Hukyu, along with charter members Leota Johnson and Bill Henderson, as Suncoast Bonsai Society in 1965, becoming Gulf Coast in 1969, and then, in search of a more unique name, Hukyu. In 1971 Mr. Lin, originator of the idea of Bonsai Societies of Florida, contacted the seven or eight bonsai societies, suggesting we should have a Florida Bonsai Newsletter, and through the newsletter, leaders of the Florida bonsai clubs arranged to meet in Orlando to organize the Bonsai Societies of Florida.

Each meeting lasts about 2 hours long and covers a topic related to Bonsai in the form of a program, a demonstration or a hands on experience. Time is always available to discuss any Bonsai related questions or problems you might have, and members are encouraged to bring in a tree for styling suggestions or just to show it off.
