Product Description

Chinese Elms are great Bonsais trees.  They can be kept indoors or outdoors and, they're very easy to grow.  They stay semi-evergreen if kept inside, but are deciduous if kept out all year.  Chinese Elms are a great choice for beginners at bonsai because they're very easy care for and have a predictable growth pattern.  They're very forgiving when pruned.

This tree's trunk supports a full, lush canopy of foliage.  It looks like a Bonsai should: a miniature version of an age-old tree.  A beautiful specimen that stands 15 inches tall, this bonsai comes in a traditional Bonsai pot with humidity tray included.  It's a bit difficult to get a sense of the actual size of this Bonsai tree from the picture, but if you look closely you will see that we have placed a pecan on the surface of the gravel as a size reference.

This Bonsai has the classic shape of an age-old tree and, although it grows slowly, and looks great now, it will continue to develop for years to come.  Can be grown indoors or outdoors but doesn't like the cold weather.

Like all joebonsai trees, satisfaction is guaranteed and help is always just an email away.

Chinese Elm Care:

Chinese Elms are fast growing, deciduous or evergreen depending on location and they form a graceful upright rounded canopy with shiny, dark green leathery leaves.  Can be grown indoors or outside but needs a sunny location in either place.  It's a good idea to keep Elms out of direct afternoon sun in the summer.

Elms need a lot of water and should never be allowed to dry out completely.  Fertilizing them three times a year is enough to maintain good color and healthy growth without enlarging the size of the leaves.

Most shaping can be done by pruning.  The bark is thin and may be damaged easily with wiring.
